A recent discussion we had shows student interest in the material sciences. So we quizzed them on what is probably the most ubiquitous space-age material there is - carbon fiber. It's in our airliners, cars, computers, even furniture. But it seems that most people are quite ill-informed on it, irregardless of their interest.

Thus far we've talked about molecules, covalent bonds and other aspects of chemistry that involves physics. However we left out probably the most important physics-related topic in chemistry: energy.

This article will discuss, in general, on how the theories of energy physics are applied in chemistry.

Lets face it, we'd like to think we're the greatest living thing on the Planet, but we know we're not. We may be able to smelt metals, generate electricity, and even split atoms; but those are nothing compared to a plant's ability to use light to manufacture the complex chemicals that keeps this planet teeming with life.

If you still scoff at this notion, then prepare to be humbled.
