Plants and animals may have split off to form different branches of the evolutionary tree eons ago, but we still share alot of similarities. For example both our cells and that of our green cousins are eukaryotic (refer to previous article).

​But this article will highlight the differences, not just for convenience, but due to their different needs and functions.

Secondary school Biology seldom go into the details, the structure of a cell is an example of this. We were taught that cells consists of the nucleus, mitochondria, chloroplasts, walls and such, but that's pretty much it. We bet that teachers could go deeper into the subject with no risk of confounding their students. We therefore challenge the teachers to add value to their syllabus, starting from the basics.

How did life evolve from simple, single-celled creatures to complex animals capable of manipulating nature? For most of the three billion years of Earth's history, life is limited to single celled bacterium, what changed?
