Sometimes it takes a leap of creativity to link two seemingly unrelated things together; for instance weaving and programming. Of course in our times both are integrated through computerised automation.

But what if instead of this being the result, the convergence of these two fields are just a recurrence of something that happened almost two centuries ago?

Iron started similarly, and it tool millennia to put them into construction and machine making. Aluminium (or "aluminum" in case you're an American) went through the process of discovery, novelty, application, and societal dependence in less than two centuries.
