Since the launch of IFSA one year ago we have had the photo of the Space Shuttle on our landing page. Of course, we are not denying that this piece of engineering marvel is now permanently retired, but it’s supposed to embody the hope that we have for IFSA itself: aim high.

So it’s been a year. Clearly, we must do something to commemorate this event. But what? How about we take some inspiration from our landing page and look at space ships in orbit and consider the energy required to put them there? With MATHS, and GRAPHS! *drool*...

IFSA went to the 2016 KL Engineering Science Fair to find out how far the engineering sciences had reached into the Malaysian society, industry and schools.

Every time Intel or AMD releases a new processor, the technogeeks amongst us rave on how many transistors they had crammed into it. The number used to be in the thousands, then millions, and now billions. But what are these things that we associated with power, speed and better gaming experience?

These humble devices have a unique history, and without it much of our civilisation would not have existed.

We have taken much of the things in our life for granted, and the pursuit for the latest and greatest makes us forget how we even got to where we are. The computer being one of them, many of us had assumed that prior to the 1980s, the world was in the tech equivalent of the stone age, but not so.
