From our observation of the universe, life is a rare occurrence, and when it exists, a fragile one. The Earth itself had periods of extinction events that nearly turned our little blue planet into a barren death world not unlike Mars.

And we have taken life, including our own, for granted. Last Life of Leaves tells a story of how it is lost and regained, and serves as a warning and reminder to us all.

Sometimes it takes a leap of creativity to link two seemingly unrelated things together; for instance weaving and programming. Of course in our times both are integrated through computerised automation.

But what if instead of this being the result, the convergence of these two fields are just a recurrence of something that happened almost two centuries ago?

How do you photograph something that does not emanate light, and even consumes it with its great gravity? What did we photographed exactly?

But more importantly, how did we do it?

What do we mean by exponential growth? How quickly does your bank balance grow? How quickly does a cup of tea cool, or radium decay? What shape is a washing line and what is the link with a single mysterious number?

This story relates to the dilemma our society faces with every new technology. With gene editing, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, science's unending possibilities also carry also carries cautionary tales.
